FanGirls Online is an academic research investigation about women who are life-long pop music fans. It began as a survey of fans of multiple bands, but ultimately the scope was narrowed to focus on one particular fan community, the fans of Duran Duran, whose unwavering loyalty for more than 30 years was so striking that it had to receive special attention.
This project’s findings have been discussed on BBC Radio and TV (click here for a list of media appearances) and at multiple conferences in the UK and the U.S.
This is an exciting time as this research enters its final year. Findings from this project will be published soon in an upcoming edited collection and in a special issue journal about music and audiences.
FanGirls Online belongs to the many fans who have been generous enough to share their experiences for the benefit of media research.
